Have you ever seen a couple unearth a bottle of whiskey at their wedding?! If not you haven't met a couple as cool as Kim and Michael. The two were referred to me by Kim's brother and sister-in-law who I've had the pleasure of photographing for 4 years now (thanks, Tim & Mairin!) When Kim and Michael asked me if I would climb a mountain for their engagement session I knew we were going to be a good match! These two are the perfect blend of sweet and goofy and when you're around them they just radiate such a fun and positive energy! Needless to say I've been looking forward to their wedding since they booked and so excited that they got to celebrated in a vaccine ready world! I loved so much about their day it's hard to narrow it down, but here's my top 10 favorite things about their wedding !
Birkby House is gorgeous! Anything historic always gets my attention but this one was immaculate with so much variety. Just wait till you see that rich green paint on the walls where the guys got ready.
Their 4-year-old niece kept calling me and Laura (my awesome 2nd!), "the picture girls" and took every opportunity to get in front of the camera. Yas girl!
The gift that Michael gave Kim before the ceremony wins for the most thoughtful gift I've ever seen given on a wedding day. He's been saving things from all of their dates and adventures over the years and put it all in a nice box for her. Michael takes the points for the most romantic!
They had jello shots in syringes as a 'vaccine' for their guests to take when they first arrive. They definitely win for clever points.
During the ceremony instead of traditional readings, they had two friends read poems. What was different was that 1 poem was written by Kim and one by Michael. All the feels!
Kim and Michael opted to open up the dance flood and share their first dance with their guests, too! Then they continued dancing before dinner - a trend that I hope continues!
During the parent dances each of their voices came on over the song playing with a pre-recorded message they wrote for their Dad and Mom respectively. I lost my Dad 5 years ago so every daddy-daughter dance always gets me but this one took the cake; not a dry eye in the house.
Kim & Michael buried a bottle of whiskey at the Birkby House and dug it up at their reception. That was cool enough but then almost every single person at the wedding took a shot of it with them... how could we resist?! ;)
They had pizza as a snack for their guests to refuel from tearing up the dance floor up! Pizza wins in my book all the time but what was even better is that every single guest was dancing, and they knew how to throw down! (Thanks in part to everyone being vaccinated!)
They finished the night with a last dance for just the two of them then celebrated one last time with a sparkler exit before heading out to the after party at a local bar in Leesburg. With everything going on around them they were so thoughtful to send me home with a gift. I'm so glad we can give hugs again because they're just the best!
Kim and Michael, may your years be spent with many laughs, adventures and good whiskey. Thank you for choosing me to document this special time in your lives and I can't wait to see where the journey takes you!
